Gen AI in Schools? Parents Aren't Sold
Parents are expressing growing concerns over the rise of generative AI (Gen AI) in educational spaces and its effects on children. A recent Harris Poll shows that only 36% of parents believe Gen AI could be beneficial to learning, while 46% worry it could have adverse effects on children’s education. Furthermore, 38% of adults oppose its use in schools for minors, largely due to concerns about children's ability to discern AI-generated misinformation—an issue that troubles nearly 80% of parents surveyed.
Beyond education, skepticism about Gen AI extends to broader privacy and security concerns. Fewer than 40% of U.S. adults feel confident that businesses using Gen AI will handle personal information responsibly, reflecting a deep-rooted anxiety about digital security. Cybersecurity breaches have left a lasting impact on consumer trust, with 29% of respondents actively avoiding companies with previous security lapses and 28% forming lower opinions of brands that experience such incidents.
